One Potato Teriyaki Sauce
Adding a few optional ingredients - dashi powder, lemon zest, or yuzu juice - bring umami depth and a citrusy twist to this Japanese sauce.
Teriyaki sauce is a sweet and savory Japanese glaze that's perfect for adding a burst of flavor to a variety of dishes. You can use it as a marinade, a glaze, or a dipping sauce, for everything from tofu to salmon to steak.
This is not the most basic teriyaki sauce recipe - our recipe combines soy sauce, mirin, pineapple juice, brown sugar, young ginger, garlic, and a touch of dashi powder for that extra umami kick. Optional additions like orange and lemon zest, along with yuzu, bring a delightful citrusy twist.
Pro Tip: We recommend using organic citrus if you are adding the zest. If you can't find organic at your store, soak whole orange and lemon in a baking soda solution (1 teaspoon of baking soda to 2 cups of water) for 15 minutes.
Teriyaki sauce is a fantastic companion for dishes like grilled chicken, beef, or salmon. It's also great for tofu and veggies, adding that irresistible, glossy finish that makes every bite a delight. You can keep this sauce on rotation in your fridge to add that extra flavor oomph to tons of dishes.
