Order Up! A Conversation with One Potato Families & a Sunday Smoothie
Read on for our new segment where we interview a One Potato community member about their kitchen tips & tricks, and this Sunday we're sharing a smoothie recipe to keep you cool this summer.
Order Up! One Potato Community Members Answer 5 Rapid Fire Questions
Introduce Yourself: Jennifer, Dave, and Elizabeth N (age 7)
We love learning about our community members’ kitchen hacks and favorite kitchen tools. Do you have one you’d like to share with us? We bought a mango slicer, even though we don't care for drawer clutter, and it has changed mango eating around here. We have given a few as gifts and the recipients all agree it is a game changer.
We love this tool! Check out our pick here.
What’s your kid’s favorite cooking task, or how do they help out in the kitchen? Elizabeth likes to be in charge of mashing things. Her favorites are bananas when we make banana bread and avocados for guacamole. She is now the sole guac maker in our home!
Even though we’re not fans of drawer clutter (who is?), we think this avocado tool makes pitting and slicing an avocado safer and easier. Bundled with a masher, older kids can really become the guac-making pros in your house, too.
What is your absolutely favorite One Potato recipe, & why? We recently made the Tofu Rice Bowl with the Carrot Ginger Vinaigrette and enjoyed all the flavors together along with the crunch from the cucumber!
You mentioned loving the One Potato sauces - as many in our community do, too! What sauce was your favorite and why? It is too hard to pick a favorite sauce. Depends on the day!
Tell us a cooking skill or recipe you would like to learn: I would love to improve upon my chopping skills. Those matchstick carrots and I just don't get along yet.
We’ll have to get Chef Lola to give us all some pointers - keep an eye out for some bonus content!
Calling all home chefs: If you have a smoothie recipe or homemade ice cream that is your go-to during the summer, we'd love to share that with the community. We're melting out here, and think these would be great to share! Elizabeth's favorite smoothie is banana, pineapple, mango, chia seed, and oatmilk. We are also big fans of "ice cream" from our YoNana machine.
Thanks for answering our questions, Jennifer, Dave, and Elizabeth. And thanks for the smoothie inspiration, Elizabeth.
Here’s a recipe for the One Potato Tropical Smoothie, inspired by Elizabeth. YUM!

Substitutions and Dietary Considerations
Dairy-free or vegan: Use your favorite plant-based Greek-style yogurt, and plant-based milk alternative.
Pro Tips
Frothier, richer, creamier smoothies: Use frozen fruit. Frozen fruit is just as packed-full of vitamins as fresh fruit because it’s frozen usually within 24-hours of harvesting, when the fruit is at peak ripeness. Adding just one frozen fruit to the mix is enough to omit ice from your summer chill drink.
I'd love to share my recipe for Blueberry-Cardamom Frozen Yogurt Pops!
