You Didn’t Miss It — and It’s Not Too Late
We’ve been hearing from a lot of you who meant to sign up for the free #LifeSkillsNow summer camp and thought you missed your shot — good news: you didn’t! You can still grab access to all the workshop recordings and explore the Kids Cook Real Food courses at your own pace.
To celebrate Father’s Day, we’re sharing an easy and quick recipe with an added extra-special interview, putting those #LifeSkills to good use — because learning kitchen skills is a gift for everyone (not just Dad). ✨ Happy Father’s Day! ✨
This week, we had the honor of sharing an interview with Chef Nelson German—father, Top Chef alum, and co-founder of Meski, Sobre Mesa, and Alamar in Oakland. What inspired us most wasn’t just his incredible food (though yes, now we want plantain everything), but the way he talked about fatherhood as legacy, and food as a way to show up for family, every day.
That’s exactly the energy we’re bringing to this weekend’s Father’s Day celebration.
Whether you're planning a backyard hangout, a living room picnic, or a laid-back kitchen party, this Bonus Recipe & Activity is all about connection over perfection. With just a little prep and a whole lot of heart, this is how we say “thank you” to the dads, stepdads, grandpas, and father figures who do it all—with heart, humor, and hungry kids in tow. We’ve included a section with Substitutions and Dietary Considerations to make swaps depending on your family’s preferences and needs!
👨🍳 Rotisserie Chicken Sliders with Creamy Tangy Coleslaw – no oven needed, easy enough for kids to prep, and totally kid-approved. (Make it extra special with our One Potato Latin BBQ Sauce—Chef Nelson would definitely approve.)
🍨 Sundaes for Superdad – a scoop-your-own dessert bar that’s all about creativity and extra whipped cream.
📝 Interview with Dad – our favorite bonus activity: ask about his favorite childhood meals, best dad advice, or how he really feels about pineapple on pizza. It's a keepsake moment in the making. Interview questions here!
And of course, this wouldn’t be a One Potato recipe without a little help from our friends at Kids Cook Real Food. With safe, simple steps for your little chefs, this is a meal they can help make—and feel proud to serve.
So go ahead: blast his favorite playlist, fire up the grill (or just unwrap the rotisserie chicken), and give Dad a day to relax, laugh, and taste just how much he’s loved. 💛
